Chef Ricardo won 2nd and 3rd place in the statewide “Buy Haywood” tomato recipe contest this past fall with two unique pasta sauces featuring local Haywood county grown tomatoes. The prize included support to take the product to market using the innovative commercial kitchen at Blue Ridge Food Ventures in Candler, NC.
Chef Ricardo’s Authentic Appalachian tomato sauces are available in three flavors: Tomato & Basil, Mediterranean (with roasted garlic, capers, calamata olives - puttanesca style), and the widly popular Mucho Macho ® (with fire roasted spicy peppers - al diablo style).
You can find the sauces at these fine stores: select Earth Fare organic food markets from Knoxville, Tennessee to Greensboro, North Carolina; Greenlife, Grove Corner Market, WNC Farmer’s Market, and the French Co-Op in Asheville, North Carolina; select Pickwick Pharmacies in North and South Carolina, and Oak Hill B&B in Waynesville. Sauces are also available for purchase at Lomo Grill.
